These instructions are referred to as codes. Codes are inserted into the document at the cursor. For example, when you press the Bold key, two codes are inserted: one to turn Bold on and another to turn it off. Codes are similar to a backstage crew at a theater. Codes work behind the scenes bolding words, changing margins, etc. Let's go backstage for some firsthand experience. ÿÍÿÍÿ Press the Reveal Codes key Ý 2 23,4,79,7 The screen is split in half. WordPerfect depends on the computer for the current date. If the date is incorrect, it may be because the date was not set or was set incorrectly when the computer was started today. º¾ 19,14,26,16 [Tab] Let's delete a code. Use the Arrow keys to highlight the code next to "Corporate Marketing Conference." ÿÍÿÍÿ Move to the [Tab] code ç¾ The cursor in Reveal codes highlights the character or code on which it rests. The Delete key will erase the highlighted item. ÿÍÿÍÿ Delete the [Tab] code Æ Without the Tab code, the text moves over next to the title. To remedy the situation, just press the Tab key again. ÿÍÿÍÿ Tab the subject line over to the next tab stop You are probably beginning to realize that codes are very similar to text. You insert them by pressing keys, and you erase them with Backspace or Delete. At times, a new user may mistakenly move the cursor down a line or two by pressing the Enter key instead of the Down Arrow. The Down Arrow just moves the cursor while the Enter key adds extra space. Let's see what happens when the Enter key is accidentally pressed, splitting the line. Allow the tutor to move the cursor to the middle of the line. ¯market¯ Let's watch what happens when the Enter key is pressed. Keep your eye on the cursor in the lower Reveal Codes screen. ÿÍÿÍÿ Press the Enter key A change in the appearance of text on the screen is almost always a result of codes. In the case of the Enter key, a [HRt] or Hard Return is inserted. A Hard Return moves all subsequent text and codes down a line. Let's see what happens when the [HRt] code is deleted. ÿÍÿÍÿ Erase the [HRt] code The text returns to its proper place. ÍÍÿ Turn off Reveal Codes Ý Let's finish the memo.
