PROSPEC Computer Systems This is the fourth README file for Expert86 4.1 Copying Expert86 The Expert86 files on this disk can be copied just like any other CP/M files using the PIP command. Insert a disk containing PIP.COM (which is one of the files that is supplied with your Amstrad computer) and type PIP. The machine will respond with *. Remove the PIP disk and insert the Expert86 disk into the drive (the A: drive if you have more than one). Then type: B:=*.* Alternatively a disk can be copied using the DISCKIT utility, also supplied with the Amstrad, which provides instructions as you go along. This disk might have been copied many times before it reaches you. It is possible that it could have been altered or corrupted along the way, so in every file we have included a list of all the files that should be present. If any are missing you may want to obtain a new copy from us. 4.2 Our Position On Copyright It seems a good idea to clarify the legalities of shareware. The README files on this disk are copyright of PROSPEC Computer Systems. PROSPEC Expert86 and PROSPEC List were written in C and compiled using the excellent Hisoft C compiler. They contain the Hisoft runtimes which are copyright of Hisoft. The programs themselves are copyright of PROSPEC. We give away copies of our software and invite others to do the same, but we do retain the copyright. That means that anyone at all can use the contents of this disk, copy it, or give it to others. What they cannot do is sell it, because it is not theirs to sell. If somebody offers you a disk containing one of our products they are entitled to charge a reasonable sum for the disk itself, a reasonable sum for any postage costs they incur, and even a reasonable sum for the time and effort involved in copying the files. They may NOT charge anything at all for the software. If they do so they are quite simply breaking the law. It does not hurt us at all but it means that customers are paying more than they need to for our products, and that worries us. If you feel that you have paid more than necessary for this disk let us know the details and we'll look into it. 4.3 Dealers We are, of course, always happy to talk to dealers, distributers, manufacturers or user groups who wish to handle Expert86 or distribute it with their other products. 4.4 Programmers We are also happy to talk to programmers. If you have a piece of softare which you would like to have distributed as shareware, drop us a line. Programs may be for any purpose (utilities, games, languages, business applications, CAD, desktop publishing, or programming aids are good examples). The only conditions are that the software must be well written and useful. Programs may be for any micro-computer. We pay authors a generous royalty for each registered copy of their program, and can organise printing of manuals and so on if necessary.
